Dairy Farm

The Agricultural Consultancy centre was started to provide training and consulting service for farmers in adopting the organic agricultural practices.

Indigenous varieties

With the advent of high yielding varieties and the monopoly culture, the diverse Indian farmer who cultivated a few thousand varieties of rice a few decades ago is now under stress to grow just a handful of varieties. This has resulted in many valuable and nutritious traditional varieties being completely eliminated from the market. It has also reduced the choice of the farmer. Unless some of these varieties are preserved and retained, many of these might be lost forever.

Demonstration in the Organic Field

The traditional rice variety - Sigappu Kurivikkar (red sparrow rice) is currently being cultivated in the Ashram in a large scale. The Ashram intends to set-up a seed bank in the future for conservation of traditional seeds.

Nandi free nursery

The Nandi free nursery has saplings of a variety of trees suitable for the local conditions. These would provide a revenue generating opportunity for the farmers. This nursery is funded by CAPART.

Future: Soil testing laboratory

Farmers' Meeting
The Krishi Kendra proposes to set-up a fully equipped soil testing laboratory that can help the farmers with an analysis of their soil and advice on the appropriate usage of natural inputs as per the requirement of their soil condition. This is in line with the concentration and commitment of the Krishi Kendra in restoring the fertility of the soil in the neighbouring areas and increase the productivity.
