Vermicompost
Vermi compost produced by the garden waste digested through the earth worms is one of the most nourishing food for re-vitalising the soil. An abundant availability of vermi compost is also large encouragement for Organic farmers as natural farm input is hard to come by. One of the major focus areas of Krishi Kendra is the increase of soil fertility.

Demonstration at the Vermicompost Unit

The Krishi Kendra has a vermi composting unit for generating enough of the natural manure to nourish soil. The earthworms are also cultured in the Ashram through a separate unit. The earthworms are fed with the farm litter which is partly composted un-aerobically. The vermi compost unit is monitored and documented rigorously. The effects of applying the vermi compost in the crops too is properly documented. So far, vermi compost has been applied in sugarcane, paddy, floriculture and other plants also.

Vermiwash which is currently collected as a dilute form is directly applied to the soil. Currently, the unit also produces surplus compost that is made available to the farmers in the near by areas.                              Go Top

Bio compost
The Ashram produces bio compost for its own usage and also trains farmers in making the bio compost to their benefit. Currently in the Ashram, bio compost is made with the sugarcane husk, pressed mud and cow dung. This continuous composting activity within the Ashram enables visiting farmers to participate and learn from these efforts.

Panchagavyam

Panchagavyam is a traditional concoction of 5 products from the cow that is a high fertile input for the soil. This traditional input is made in the Ashram. The Ashram also provides for Panchagavyam to be marketed to outsiders at a very nominal price.
